Color as Compass: The Art and Vision of Kimberlee Jaynes

Wether she is painting in a sun-warmed studio in the Mojave Desert, where sweeping skies meet silent, meditative space, or in  a Pacific NW Caboose nestled in the forrest of 100 year old oak trees, Kimberlee Jaynes is crafting more than art—she is building an emotional experience, one color field at a time. With an eye for vibrancy, a heart for harmony, and a mind that marries creativity with emotion, Kimberlee has emerged as a thoughtful force in the world of modern abstract art.

A Journey Fueled by Color and Curiosity

Kimberlee’s work isn’t just about aesthetic pleasure—it’s about tapping into something deeper. Her pieces pulse with energy, grounding and awakening the viewer in equal measure. But behind the bold compositions lies a journey marked by exploration, refinement, and purpose.

Pacific Northwest Studio

From the beginning, Kimberlee was drawn to the emotive power of color. Not content to simply decorate, she set out to evoke—to make people feel seen, safe, and energized. Her appreciation for modern and color field painting evolved into a full-fledged artistic mission: to bring joy, balance, and dimension into people’s lives through abstract beauty.

A Life of Color: A Philosophy and a Brand

More than just a name, it’s a philosophy it also doubles as a platform—Kimberlee’s way of inviting others into the experience. Through her website and blog, A Life of Color, she curates stories, reflections, and creative insights that bridge the gap between viewer and creator. The work speaks visually, but the writing deepens the connection—layering intellect and storytelling on top of visual sensation.

Kimberlee's 25+ years as a renowned interior designer, deeply informs her compositions. Proportion, rythm, balance and color, all of the design elements that make up a great interior design, are easily seen in her art work. Rooted in both intuition and intentionality, her approach treats color as a language and energy as a collaborator.

A word from Kimberlee about this painting:

" As I have mentioned before, when I start a painting I have no idea what will happen. That is part of the draw for me. Will it happen today? Will I like what I paint? Will anyone else like what I paint?  I get lost in creating, the world falls away. On this canvas I blended one color to the next creating    a  seamless dreamy contemporary piece . It ensures a new discovery with every viewing, evoking feelings of warmth, contentment, and elevated vibration.
I went to an art -marketing -class and the instructor said to:
" Track the tends and see what colors are selling."  I said "I would never do that." I can't paint with colors I don't love.... Art that is made for the market, to me lacks soul. I have to paint what makes my heart sing. And perhaps there will be others that join the chorus."

The Artist as Storyteller

What distinguishes Kimberlee’s artistry is not only her mastery of medium or hue, but her voice—quietly powerful, poetic, and present. She doesn’t just title her works; she names them with intention. Phrases like “Love Lives Here” or “Celestial Vien” are more than marketing—they’re portals, teasing at the emotion behind the canvas.

Kimberlee’s sensitivity to tone—both chromatic and emotional—makes her a rare storyteller. Her blog posts explore artistic process and personal insight. She brings her audience into an intimate conversation. The result is an artist whose presence is felt not only on the wall, but in the heart.

A Canvas of Community

Art, for Kimberlee, isn’t a solitary endeavor. She views her collectors, followers, and fellow creatives as part of a larger ecosystem. Her promotional video concepts and rotating artwork on her homepage  are just the surface—beneath them lies a vision for connection. She crafts each piece with a clear intention: that it will find the person who needs it, emotionally and energetically.

How to find your style of painting: A Life in Color: My Journey into Abstract Painting

From the moment I picked up a brush I knew color would be my language. Bright, expansive hues—each one carrying energy, emotion, and movement—became the foundation of my artistic expression. Color Field Painting , with its immersive washes and luminous tones, felt like home to me.   I’ve always been drawn to the way color speaks without words. How a single hue can evoke joy, nostalgia, or introspection. The layering, the blending, the sheer presence of pigment—it’s more than just paint on canvas. It’s a feeling, a space, an experience.   As I refine my craft, I find myself chasing light, depth, and vibrancy. Every stroke is intentional, yet fluid. My goal? To create pieces that don’t just decorate a space but transform it—offering viewers a moment of energy, serenity, or wonder.    As a former interior designer, I experienced how my client's had an immediate reaction to colors.    The Power of Color   Color has an uncanny ability to sha...

I never know what will emerge. As I set my heart and mind into that sacred unknown. That moment between the first stroke and the unfolding story. That’s the alchemy of abstract painting.

When I open the box holding a fresh canvas, there’s a quiet thrill in the blank space, a mystery waiting to unfold. As artist Henri Matisse so perfectly said, “Creativity takes courage.” For me, that courage lies in the first bold gesture—laying down paint without a plan, just an intuitive sense.  I never know what will emerge. As I set my heart and mind into that sacred unknown. That moment between the first stroke and the unfolding story. That’s the alchemy of abstract painting. Music is my constant companion in the studio. While creating Holding Space, I played a mix that pulsed through the day on Spotify—sonic threads that stitched color into canvas. Curious what that sounded like? I’ve shared my playlist—give it a spin:    Spotify music list   And tell me: what music brings your creativity alive? Drop your favorites in the comments—I’d love to hear what moves you. Then came the color story: rich medium violet, deep ultramarine blue, and a hand-mixe...
